This 2023 Ford Super Duty Power Stroke Has One Unmistakably BAD Thing About It!

Is this one of the coolest HD trucks of them all?

We’ve had a few opportunities to check out the new 2023 Ford Super Duty, but this is a different animal. Thanks to the folks over at Elevation Off-Grid, Andre has a chance to check out this 6.7-liter Power Stroke turbo-diesel-equipped F-550 chassis cab. Now, if you’re wondering where the rest of the truck’s at, we only just got our hands on this truck after it made its way off the assembly line. This is just the start of a new and epic build from EOG — one we’ll be checking out here on TFLtruck and on TFLoffroad as it progresses over the coming months.

But what makes the 2023 Ford F-550 special? Apart from the fact that you can only get it as a chassis cab (unlike the F-450 on down, where you can get a conventional pickup truck), the name of the game with the F-550 and F-600 is payload. This version of the Super Duty takes a pretty significant step up from the F-450 and lower models, offering 10,930 pounds of payload and an 18,000 GVWR in this crew cab configuration. To put that in perspective, you could load up a GMC Hummer EV’s worth of weight and a five-strong crew in the cab and still have some wiggle room on payload.

While this is also one of our first chances to test out the 6.7-liter Power Stroke in the new generation, this is not the high-output engine you can spec in the retail trucks. Rather than 500 horsepower and 1,200 lb-ft of torque, you get 330 horsepower and 950 lb-ft. That’s a bit lower due to the way Ford rates these trucks for emissions purposes, and these engines are meant to take on hundreds of thousands of miles (hopefully) without breaking a sweat.
