Is this military prototype truck hinting at the future of GM’s heavy-duty off-road trucks? This may just be an indirect preview of the rumored 2024 Chevy Silverado HD ZR2 – GM’s Ram Power Wagon fighter. Let’s look at the details.
GM Defense recently showed this image of a new Light Utility Vehicle prototype. This is part of GM Defense’s new International expansion. You can read more about this at Muscle Cars & Trucks.
While the image does not communicate the size and scale of this pickup prototype – it is clearly based on the latest GM heavy-duty pickup truck platform. Take a look at the hood, the profile, and the side step that is built into the bedside. The prototype has a unique front bumper that houses a winch and additional lights.
The prototype may also have a lifted suspension and large all-terrain tires. The central hood scoop suggests that it has a turbo-diesel engine. This may be GM’s latest version of the 6.6-liter Duramax turbo-diesel V8 with more power and torque than in its current production form.
Ram has been dominating the heavy-duty off-road pickup truck segment with its Power Wagon. In recent years the Ford Super Duty Tremor has joined the fight. It’s GM’s turn to bring an even more off-road capable off-road truck. We have seen some spied prototype images of a Silverado HD ZR2 (and/or GMC Sierra HD AT4X). Unofficial information suggests that these trucks are coming as soon as the 2024 model year (or later) with larger Multimatic DSSV spool-valve shocks, locking differentials, and large tires.
Please let me know your thoughts about this GM Defense prototype. Here is a recent video of us (with MrTruck.com) towing trailers on the Ike Gauntlet™ – the world’s toughest towing test.
