The 2022 Ram ProMaster is thoroughly updated with a new interior, the latest technology (Uconnect 5), driving assist technology, and a new transmission for claimed improved efficiency. Yes, the outside looks mostly the same as before. You have to look inside to see the upgrades.
Just in case you are wondering, Ram says that an all-electric version of the ProMaster is coming to the U.S. market in 2023. The company has not provided any further specifications on this model.
2022 Ram ProMaster Powertrain
The updated van retains the 3.6-liter gas V6 that was there before. It produces 280 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. The van is still offered in front-wheel-drive, but the transmission is all new. It’s a 948TE 9-speed Torqueflite automatic. It replaces the old 6-speed automatic and Ram says the new transmission improves the van’s fuel efficiency. The interesting part is that this transmission offers four overdrive gears (6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th). This is meant to offer improved efficiency at higher speeds. The 1st gear now offers more slow pulling power. It’s a 4.71 to 1, instead of a 3.90 to 1 that was there before.
Capability and Upfit
The new van continues to offer a great 4,680 lbs of maximum payload capacity, 6,910 lbs of maximum towing, and the same rear dimensions. This means you can still bring all the stuff with you and have the same shelving or other vocational upfits that you are used to.
Interior & Technology
The interior is fully redesigned to bring the ProMaster van more in line with what you may find in other Ram trucks. It’s still more meant for work, rather than having ultimate luxury as you would find in a premium pickup truck. Still, the new ProMaster offers a 10-inch center infotainment screen that is powered by the latest Uconnect 5 system. This means that the system is quick to respond and offers convenient features like wireless Apple CarPlay.
The 2022 ProMaster also offers Ram’s Active Driving Assist. Ram says that this is a Level 2 automation system, that offers lane centering and adaptive cruise control. Although, the driver’s hands still need to be on the steering wheel, and the driver still needs to pay attention and be able to take over driving duties at moment’s notice.
The 2022 Ram ProMaster vans will go on sale in the fourth quarter of 2021. Pricing will be available a little closer to launch.
