An anonymous source tells TFLtruck.com that GM has temporarily stopped accepting sales orders for the LM2 3.0-liter turbo-diesel I6 engine that is used in popular vehicles: Chevy Silverado 1500, GMC Sierra 1500, Chevy Tahoe, Chevy Suburban, GMC Yukon, and Cadillac Escalade.

Update from GM representative (08/29/2021 3pm MST): “GM can confirm this is accurate due to a temporary part shortage. GM will resume production with the 3.0L Duramax diesel as soon as possible.

Here is a copy of the message that GMC dealer operators and sales managers received yesterday.

It basically says that the 3.0-liter I6 Duramax engine is not available for order at this time. Those customers who request the diesel engine are encouraged to switch to the L84 (5.3L gas V8) or L87 (6.2L gas V8) engines.

We reached out to GM for comment. We will update this story when we get more information.
