Update: the 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 LT Trail Boss Diesel is now confirmed by the GMfleetorderguide.com site.
As the order books for the 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 are opening up, we are slowly getting a better picture of what the next model year will bring to GM’s trucks. Most of us expected a thorough mid-cycle refresh for the Silverado 1500 for 2022, but we will have to wait longer to learn about those changes. In the meantime, the 2022 Silverado 1500 trucks continue without many changes, except for this recent report.
A recent report by GM Authority and Autoblog suggests that the 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 Trail Boss LT will start offering the company’s 3.0-liter turbo-diesel I6 Duramax engine. This configuration of the truck has been widely requested by consumers.
The Trail Boss off-road package has been available since its introduction for the 2019 model year. It offers a two-inch suspension lift, skid plates, unique styling elements (red tow hooks), specially tuned shocks, G80 rear locking differential, and Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac tires. The Trail Boss ‘LT’ package adds more luxurious features than the base Trail Boss Custom truck.
Those customers who like the torque and efficiency of the 3.0-liter straight-six Duramax diesel could get a GMC Sierra 1500 AT4 with this engine, but the Trail Boss was missing out on the diesel. If this report is confirmed, then Chevy truck fans have something else to look forward to. This engine is rated at 277 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque.
In other Silverado 1500 trucks, this diesel engine costs about $1,045 more than a 5.3-liter gas V8 option. During the time when Ford is discontinuing the new F-150 diesel engine option, Chevrolet appears to be expanding their turbo-diesel engine availability. GM has also made this 3.0-liter diesel more affordable in recent months. This engine option used to cost the same as the premium 6.2-liter gas V8. Now, the Duramax is a bit more affordable.
Chevrolet spokesperson confirms this news:
“The 2022 Silverado LTD will offer the 3.0L Duramax diesel engine option for the LT Trail Boss trim. Customers can expect to see 2022 Silverado LTDs arrive in dealerships this fall.“
The GMfleetorderguide.com site also confirms a 2022 Silverado Trail Boss model with a 2.7-liter turbo gas I4 engine.
