Toyota gives us another teaser for the upcoming 2022 Toyota Tundra truck. This time it’s the name and a close look at the engine that will power the truck. Toyota is calling the new engine “iForce MAX”. The company got a trademark for this name back in February/March of 2020. Now, Toyota is giving us an official look.
Toyota does not provide any other details or specifications about the engine at this time, but this engine cover looks an awful lot similar to the engine cover on the new 2022 Toyota Land Cruiser that was unveiled last week. Check it out.
The engine you see pictured above is an official image from Toyota. It is the company’s 3.5-liter twin-turbo gas V6 that is rated at 409 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque in the all-new 300-series Land Cruiser. In the “LC”, this engine is mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission. We anticipate the global Land Cruiser to share many of its components, including the engine and transmission with the upcoming next-generation Tundra, Sequoia, and other trucks or SUVs.
If the next Tundra did in fact offer a twin-turbo V6 with 409 hp, this would be a very competitive engine against the like of the Ford F-150, Chevy Silverado, Ram 1500, and the Nissan Titan. It’s important that this powertrain be powerful, capable, and also efficient.
We still do not know if the iForce MAX name refers to the new base Tundra engine, or the optional and more powerful engine that may be a gas/electric hybrid. We will have to wait and see as more details and specifications begin to surface.
