2021 best hd truck heavy duty ram ford chevy gmc

On this episode of TFL Talkin’ Trucks, an old friend stops by for a discussion on the best heavy duty truck in 2021 and beyond. Yep, Mr.Truck – Kent Sundling – is in the studio to talk all things truck. Mr.Truck also brought several truck and trailering accessories. These are the latest gadgets to make your towing experience better than ever.

All three HD pickup truck manufacturers continue to up their game with higher weight ratings and more advanced technologies. GM has increased their 3500 HD diesel truck towing up to 36,000 lbs. Ford Super Duty trucks are still at 37,000 lbs. Finally, Ram HD upped the ante to a maximum tow rating of 37,100 lbs.

We completed some heavy tow testing with these dually trucks in 2020. We are planning to test more 2021 and 2022 trucks soon this year. One engine/truck combination really stood out in 2020. It’s the 2020+ Ford Super Duty with the latest 6.7-liter Power Stroke V8 turbo-diesel. This engine is rated at 475 horsepower and 1,050 lb-ft of torque. It’s mated to a heavy-duty 10-speed automatic transmission. In the end, this combination results in a quick and powerful truck that can haul heavy weights – and do it with efficiency.

Of course, Ram was not going to stand by and watch the diesel torque war walk away from it. The 2021 Ram HD high-output Cummins I6 rating is at 420 horsepower and 1,075 lb-ft of torque. This engine is mated to a 6-speed Aisin automatic transmission.

The 2021 GM trucks continue with the 6.6-liter Duramax V8 turbo-diesel with 445 horsepower and 910 lb-ft of torque. This engine is now mated to a 10-speed Allison-branded automatic transmission.
