Video: This Is Nuts – Why Drag Race a Ram TRX versus a 1954 International? It’s FAST!

This 'Run What You Brung' episode is something else.

2021 ram trx drag race turbo v8 chevy international truck drag race

Why put a 1954 International Harverster pickup truck against a new Ram TRX in a drag race? It’s because the old IH truck is actually later model GM truck underneath with a turbocharged 5.3-liter V8! The turbo is massive and nobody know exactly how much power it makes. We do know that the old truck is capable of sub 12 second 1/4-mile times at a proper drag strip.

Big thanks to IMI Motorsports Complex for supporting this series. You can bring your truck, car, or motorcycle to this track, you can rent go karts, or you can have a blast on their properly setup motor-cross tracks and dirt trails.

On this episode of “Run What You Brung”, we attempt to see if this one-of-a-kind modified truck can take down the mighty supercharged V8 TRX. The Ram’s engine produces 702 horsepower, but the new truck also weighs a heavy 6,500 lbs. The old truck is way lighter.

This modified IH / Chevy blew our minds! It takes a while to build up boost, but once it’s there – this thing leaps off the line. It’s a challenge to drive because the steering has a lot of play in it.

Spoiler Alert: the old truck recorded a 3.92 second 0-60 MPH time at our track. This is insane for a truck like this. The best time the TRX can manage on our track is a 4.54 second 0-60 MPH. Check out the video for all the details.
