Raptor vs. Can-Am Maverick X3 on AND off-road!

There are a lot of things going on in this video with the Ford Raptor vs. the Cam-Am Maverick X3, besides the awesomeness of drag racing. We actually begin in the garage where Andre is prepping the Maverick X3 to head off-road with new wheels and massive tires.

We are sending a big thank you to Can-Am for providing the Maverick X3 and for sponsoring this episode. The Ford Raptor belongs to TFLtruck, it’s our long-term test truck.

We know that there are positives and negatives to adding larger (heavier) 34-inch tires to the Maverick X3. One of the issues will be slower acceleration. The heft and size (rotational mass) of the tires will take some of the edge off of the Maverick’s ridiculous acceleration. By how much? We weren’t sure before we raced. It also changed the dynamics of the vehicle, from its center of gravity to its overall handling.

This was good news for the Ford Raptor.

About a month back, we had the same Maverick X3 (minus larger tires) go up against the animal-like new 2021 Ram TRX. The TRX is a MUCH more powerful truck than the Raptor, and it is comically fast. Still, the Can-Am Maverick was more than a match for it. You can read and watch all about it here – TRX vs Can-am Maverick X3.

Given the fact that the heavier tires will slow the side-by-side down a bit, perhaps the Ford Raptor could give it a run for the money. At the very least, it will be entertaining! The 2020 Ford F-150 Raptor comes with a high-output, 450 horsepower, twin-turbo V6. It’s hooked up to a 10-speed automatic transmission and uses one of the most sophisticated suspension systems on the market today. Ford used a lot of aluminum – so it’s lighter than the TRX as well.

The Can-Am Maverick X3 comes with a 195 horsepower 3-cylinder turbocharged engine paired to a continuously variable transmission (CVT). It also has a remarkably sophisticated suspension system and is one of the fastest factory-built side-by-sides we’ve ever driven.
