How much will the first GMC Hummer EV bring at auction?
Both General Motors and Barrett-Jackson announced Tuesday that the first GMC Hummer EV will head to auction this March in Scottsdale, Arizona. That continues a long-standing trend akin to the Ram TRX and several other “VIN 001” examples. When those trucks go up for sale, proceeds usually go to charity. In the Hummer’s case, GM will donate to Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation. The Staten Island, New York-based foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that helps injured members of the U.S. Armed Forces and first responders through various programs.
“The sale of these remarkable GM vehicles is an important part of our effort to support some very worthwhile charities,” said Barrett-Jackson president Steve Davis. “The thrill of being the winning bidder for either one of these collectible vehicles (the other is the first retail 2020 Corvette Convertible) will only be sweetened by the fact that 100 percent of the hammer price will go to benefit our nation’s veterans, as well as families in need across Southeastern Michigan.” Proceeds from the Corvette sale will go to the United Way for Southeastern Michigan.
GMC Hummer EV Edition 1 specs
Later this year, GM will roll out the ‘Edition 1’ version of the GMC Hummer EV. It’s the most powerful and capable variant on paper. Using three electric motors, it manages 1,000 horsepower and an estimated 0-60 time in the three second range. It also boasts a standard “CrabWalk” feature, four-wheel steering, adaptive air suspension and an off-road package with 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory mud-terrain tires. The roof features transparent “sky panels”, and the truck is generally well-equipped with much more in the way of comfort and convenience equipment.
The 2022 GMC Hummer EV Edition 1 starts off at $112,595 before destination charges and EV incentives. This one will obviously fetch well north of that favor, while more affordable versions will come along in the next two to three years.
