This 1992 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 is a serious work truck that has a great story!
Our friend David has a 1992 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 4WD with over 304,000 miles on it. This was bought new as a work truck and a family hauler, and it’s still a solid runner today. David has worked in construction in the Rocky Mountains for decades. This type of work requires long miles, often on high-elevation highways and terrible dirt roads, all through Rocky Mountain weather (read: crappy weather).
This truck has hauled, pulled, transported, bounded over terrain and worked hard for nearly three decades.
In over 300,000 miles, David has replaced the alternator (“at least once”), 4WD actuator, a few batteries, shocks, injectors, brakes two clutches and four sets of Michelin tires. Other than a few tech, cosmetic and interior fixes, that’s about it.
This 1992 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 has a 454 with a five-speed manual transmission and four-wheel drive. It has 3.73 gears and, other than air-conditioning, no frills. It’s a 3/4 cab long bed that David paid $19,000 cash for – brand new.
There’s an important point that David brings up. “(summarized) My best friend is my trusted mechanic. You can run a truck forever if you have a trusted mechanic.” Check out this video and see what you think!
