Ram is currently building and selling two generations of the Ram 1500 truck at the same time. On this episode, I compare the previous (DS) generation 2020 Ram 1500 “Classic” Warlock truck and the new (DT) generation 2020 Ram 1500 Rebel side by side. Is the Warlock the best overall value new 4×4 V8 truck you buy? Let’s see what you get and don’t with each.
Big thanks to Johnson Auto Plaza for providing both trucks for this comparison.
2020 Ram 1500
The DS-generation Ram 1500 trucks are currently built at the Warren Truck plant in Michigan. The DT-generation trucks are manufactured at the Sterling Heights facility. Why build and sell both generations of the truck at the same time? Naturally, these decisions are very complicated. Having the DS-generation Classic trucks allows Ram to offer a lower price on these truck. The 2020 Ram 1500 Classic Tradesman starts at $28,200. The 2WD Warlock quad cab starts at $36,345. FCA is also working to be the full-size Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer to the market. These will be based on the Ram 1500 chassis, and presumably be built at the Warren Truck plant when the time comes.
The Warlock
The Ram 1500 Classic Warlock package combines several components into one interesting truck. The front is a first-generation Ram Rebel grille and lower bumper trim. The 20-inch wheels from a Ram Express package. The interior is well equipped with the 8-inch infotainment screen and a digital central gauge multi-function screen.
Under the hood of the Warlock you see in this video is a 5.7-liter V8. The engine still produces 395 hp and 410 lb-ft of torque, and it is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. When all is said and done the Warlock truck like this can be had for under $40,000 at Johnson Auto Plaza.
