What’s the best way to go into the wilderness and off the grid beyond the pavement? How about this new Ford F-250 4×4 truck and the Four Wheel Campers Hawk truck camper!
We will be doing a deep dive into the truck and its suspension in a few days. This episode is focused on the camper, its features and details. This is a 6.5-foot truck camper that fits neatly into the 6.75-foot Ford Super Duty bed. We still had to remove the tailgate in order to have a proper installation and easier egress in and out of the camper. Our “Super Tremor” truck has a suspension lift and 37-inch tires. It’s a tall vehicle, and the access into the camper is made easy by a folding rear hitch step.
Once inside, this Hawk model offers plenty of storage, sleeping space, and appliances. The front (over the cab) section can be converted from a standard bed for two into a large “king size” bed space. Underneath is a dinette area which also converts into a small bed.
On the driver side, there is an air heater thermostat control, water heater control (20-gallon water tank), two batteries, solar panel/charging system, a kitchen sink with a counter surface, a two-burner stove, and several storage cubbies.
On the passenger side, there is an electric fridge with a freezer space and much more storage. The pop-up section uses struts to assist in up and down operation. It takes just a relatively light touch to raise the roof or lower it. The ceiling has two vents, one of them has an automatic bi-directional fan.
Check out all of the details of this camper in the video below. This truck and camper are going on a cross-country off-road journey this summer on the TransAmerica trail. We are calling this series “No Pavement Needed”.
