Hauling toys with a new Glyder hitch.

The new 2020 Jeep Gladiator Mojave may feel at home in the desert and off-road, but can you also bring some toys with you along for the ride? In this video I tow a 5,000 lbs trailer and check what MPG I can get with this load.

Under the hood of this Jeep is still a 3.6-liter V6 with 285 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. The engine is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. The maximum towing rating for the Mojave is 6,000 lbs. It has to do with the softer off-road suspension: unique springs and 2.5-inch body FOX shocks.

This towing test is brought to you by our friends at GenY Hitch. I am also using a new Glyder cushioned hitch. The hitch has a built-in torsion axle that softens the bumps and hits that are coming from the trailer.

Spoiler: In the end, I run a 25 miles city and highway mixed loop and get a result of 11.8 MPG at the pump. The suspension, transmission, and the truck handled this towing job just fine. The engine still felt like it was working too much. It was revving high, but got the job done in the end.
