2004 GMC Yukon XL

The Yukon XL is GMC’s version of the Chevy Suburban. At first, this seems fairly ordinary. A closer inspection shows 8-lug hubs that are also available on the 3/4-ton and 1-ton GM pickup trucks. This basically means that this giant SUV has a higher Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) and a higher payload capacity. As you can see in the attached images below, the GVWR on this bad boy is 8,600 lbs. This thing can carry around 2,000 lbs of payload without much issue, although we do not have an exact payload rating.

Next, this heavy duty (HD) version of the Yukon XL has a more powerful and robust 6.0-liter Vortec gas V8 engine. This engine was also available in GM’s HD pickup trucks of the same era. The power rating was listed at 325 hp and 365 lb-ft of torque. This larger displacement heavy duty engine is mated to a 4-speed automatic transmission.

All right, there are a few heavy duty Chevy Suburbans and GMC Yukon XLs out there, what’s the big deal? This particular one is also equipped with GM’s Quadrasteer four-wheel steering system. You can quickly see it by the side marker lights on the rear fender flare. The entire combination is what makes this 2004 Yukon XL a bit of a unicorn. Big and capable SUVs like this are hard to find to begin with, but the Quadrasteer system is even more so.

The four-wheel steering system allows the behemoth SUV to make tighter turns at low speed, and be a little more stable at high speeds. It can also help when towing and backing up a trailer.

If you want to know more about this particular Yukon XL, it may still be available on this market place – 2004 GMC Yukon XL HD.
