The latest Ford trademark filing renews the Ford Excursion name for “motor vehicles, namely: pick-up trucks, electric vehicles, sport utility vehicles, off-road vehicles, and their structural parts.” This is the second Ford trademark news this week. Lincoln also made a trademark for the eGlide name.
What does this mean? Is Ford planning to bring back the Excursion SUV? Will it be based on the new Ford Super Duty? We do not have any official answers on this yet. However, a giant Ford Super Duty Excursion SUV is unlikely in my opinion. Ford already sells the Ford Expedition and the long wheelbase Expedition Max. These full-size SUVs are competing directly against the Chevy Tahoe, Chevy Suburban and others.
If not a giant truck-based SUV, then what could the next Excursion be?

What if the future Ford Excursion is an all-electric full-size SUV with a focus on off-road capability? GM is bringing the Hummer brand name back with in an all-electric form. Perhaps, Ford is considering something similar for the next Excursion? We do not know for sure. As soon as we hear anything more on this subject – we will let you know.
