The new Tesla Model Y crossover is not rated to tow, according to the owner’s manual. The Model Y is more of a compact SUV when compared to its bigger brother – the Model X. The new Model Y started shipping to customers. It has many cool features and technology, but it does not appear to be equipped with a hitch.

This crossover is available with AWD. It has a maximum EPA driving range of 316 miles, and the performance model is rated at a 3.5 second 0-60 MPH acceleration. If you liked the Model 3, then you will like the taller Model Y – which is largely based on the Model 3.

The Model Y has a curb weight of 4,416 lbs. The Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) is 5,302 lbs. This is the maximum allowed weight of the vehicle plus all occupants and cargo. This also means that the Model Y has a maximum payload of about 886 lbs. (For comparison, the bigger Model X has a 1,157 lbs payload capacity.)

The owner’s manual states that the Model Y is “not equipped with towing”. It is currently not clear if it will be equipped with a hitch receiver to carry a bike rack or another hitch-mounted accessory. The Model Y will be offered with a roof rack accessory if you want to carry skis, snow boards, or other items.
