The 2020 Ford Super Duty trucks are hitting the dealerships in force, and the guys at 5 Star Tuning see significant power gains from the new 7.3-liter “godzilla” gas V8 with a tune and no other hardware intake or exhaust modifications.
2020 Ford F-250
Check out the dyno chart below to see exactly how the big gas V8 reacts to a tune when running 87-octane regular or 93-octane premium fuel. The factory rating on this engine at the crank is 430 hp and 475 lb-ft of torque.
5 Star sees additional +38 lb-ft of torque on 87-octane and +59 lb-ft on 93-octane. There are horsepower and torque gains throughout the rev range. The total peak power is 400 HP / 460 LB-FT to wheels on 93 octane. 5 Star Tuning estimates that the maximum crank power is 455 HP and 523 LB-FT of torque.
The above is round one results of the 7.3L V8 tuning. There is still a lot of development and testing to be done. Below is another dyno session graph with the latest “round two” with slightly higher tuned 87-octane numbers.
We will publish the 7.3L V8 Ike Gauntlet run soon, so you can see how the stock truck with a 4.30 rear axle performs in the real world.
