Hyundai has officially confirmed the plan to build the new crossover-based pickup truck at their Alabama factory. The source at TheKCB.com has the first image of a small pickup with four forward-opening doors (crew cab). The source says the Santa Cruz pickup is based on an extended new Tucson crossover unibody chassis.

The source reports that the design is expected to be “more distinctive” and have “more character” than the concept vehicle you we saw nearly five years ago (see video below).

The source expects a 2.5-liter gas/electric hybrid powertrain with an official debut in late 2020 as a 2021 model. Although, this trucklet may not go on sale until sometime in 2021.

Will the production Santa Cruz have an extending bed or a mid-gate similar to a Chevy Avalanche or a Subaru Baja? We will have to wait to find out.
