2019 Ford Expedition : Tuned EcoBoost

Here is a 2019 Ford Expedition that is mechanically all stock, but it also put down 464 horsepower and 551 lb-ft of torque to the rear wheels with a performance tune from 5 Star Tuning. Here are all the details.

We recently focused on comparing the latest Ford F-150 trucks, but the new Ford Expedition has a very similar power train. It’s the 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 and the 10-speed automatic transmission.

The new Expedition comes with two power levels from the factory. There is a base 375 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque (at the crank) rated at 87-octane. There is also the Expedition Platinum model that is factory rated at 400 hp and 480 lb-ft of torque by the factory with 93-octane fuel.

5 Star has been tuning trucks and SUVs for a long time, and they have many options for engine and transmission tuning. The dyno graph you see below shows a stock baseline (with 93-octane) and two different tunes (Daily/Street/Tow and Performance Only).

The baseline run with 93-octane put down 364 hp and 423 lb-ft of torque to the rear wheels.

The Daily/Street/Tow tune is meant to improve power and offer a good balance for most daily driving and towing. This one ran a maximum 451 hp and 525 lb-ft of torque. The maximum torque arrives at 3,100 rpm.

The biggest gains come with the Performance Only tune. This is where the 464 hp and 551 lb-ft are at.

Naturally, 5 Star Tuning will not stop there. They are planing some hardware upgrades for a goal of a round 600 horsepower to the rear wheels. Stay tuned.

We visited 5 Star Tuning and put three of their tuned Ford F-150 trucks on the drag strip to see the results for ourselves. It was surprising indeed. These trucks improved in a big way with software engine and transmission tuning.
