We recently had a big group of half-ton pickup trucks all together in the same place, and an empty strip of pavement. So of course, a drag race ensued.
If you haven’t already, make sure you check out the World’s Toughest Drag Race (embedded below), but there were still some unanswered questions after that video was done.
Like how would the 5.0-liter Coyote V8 in the Ford F-150 stack up against the 5.7-liter HEMI in the Ram 1500? You may not have seen this in the full-length video, but the behind the scenes take includes exactly that drag race.

Both of the trucks make 395 horsepower, while the Ford makes 400 lb-ft and torque and the Ram makes 410 lb-ft. The trucks we tested were an F-150 XLT with a 3.15 rear axle ratio and just two-wheel drive, giving it the weight advantage over the Ram. The Ram was a Limited model HEMI with the eTorque mild hybrid, so it was fit with all sorts of heavy options, including four-wheel drive, though the rear end was a 3.92.
In the big drag race between all the half-tons, the F-150 EcoBoost ended up taking the win, which many attributed to it being turbocharged and the fact that the races were happening a mile above sea level. But it seems that even with natural aspiration, the F-150 is still a very quick truck.
Quick enough to beat the Ram though? You will have to watch the video above to find out.
