What is your favorite dream truck? Off-Road trucks continue to be all the rage. Ford has the F-150 Raptor. Ram recently announced a plan to produce a Hellcat-powered Rebel TRX. General Motors is turning up the heat with the upcoming 2019 Chevy Silverado 1500 Trailboss and GMC Sierra 1500 AT4. Toyota is coming back with a 2019 Tundra TRD Pro, and Nissan has the PRO-4X.
There is always room for more outrageous off-road trucks! Trucks could always get bigger, wider, faster, and louder. It begs the question. What’s next?
Chevrolet Silverado ZR2
Off-road fans are thankful that the 2019 Silverado Trailboss will get a two-inch factory lift, skid plates, rear locker, unique look, and Goodyear Duratrac tires. Yet, the upcoming Trailboss will not offer a 6.2L V8 (2.7L I4 turbo and 5.3L V8 will be offered). A big part of an over-the-top off-road truck is a unique and most powerful engine option.
Hence, here is a proposal for a Silverado 1500 ZR2. A truck with a special V8 or another bespoke engine, additional width, additional suspension travel, and unique special off-road shocks (perhaps the DSSV Multimatic spool-valve shocks).
There are also rumors about an upgraded version of the Chevy Colorado ZR2 (rumored name: Bison). If Chevy wants to make the already great Colorado ZR2 even more capable, we will not stand in their way.
Ford F-150 Raptor / Ranger Raptor
The current Ford Raptor combines a special high-output engine, unique off-road suspension, and an aggressive look. It’s a successful and a desirable truck. It could be made even better with a V8 engine option and a heavier payload suspension setup. We do not know exactly when the next F-150 Raptor is coming, but the 2019 Raptor with new dynamically adjustable Live Fox shocks is coming near the end of this year (2018).
We also don’t know when or if the new Ranger Raptor is coming to the United States. Some sources say the Ranger Raptor will be on sale when the new Ranger gets another redesign around 2021/2022 timeframe. We will have to wait and see.
Nissan Titan Warrior
Nissan fans will immediately recognize the Warrior nameplate as something special as represented by the Warrior concept truck shown a couple of years ago. The Titan Warrior concept formula is very similar. Give a truck a lift, make it wider to accommodate more suspension travel and beefy tires, and give it an aggressive style.
The masses have spoken. The Titan Warrior truck should be built, and it will sell in great numbers if the concept truck excitement is any indicator. While Nissan is at it, they should also consider building the Frontier Warrior edition as well.
Ram Rebel TRX
This appears to be a slam dunk. The TRX concept truck was an immediate hit when it came out in Texas nearly two years ago. What’s not to like? It places the Ford Raptor squarely in its sights, and adds a Hellcat-style supercharged V8 into the mix.
Toyota Tundra TRD Pro+
The 2019 Tundra TRD Pro is coming back later this year with Fox shocks and several other minor tweaks. It’s based on the current generation Tundra that has been around a long time. While the TRD Pro is a very welcome proposition, it competes against trucks like the Titan PRO-4X, Ram Rebel, and Silverado Z71.
There needs to be something like the “TRD Pro+”. The same formula applies – make it bigger, wider, meaner, and more powerful.
