Airstream is taking a new design direction with the release of a new small luxury camping trailer – called Nest. The latest trailer is of fiberglass shell construction without the classic and shiny aluminum exterior. Airstream is quick to admit that the Nest does not look like any trailer the company made before, but the company promises the same level of quality and attention to detail.
It’s a relative small camping trailer that is approximately 16.5 feet long and 7 feet wide. The unloaded weight of the trailer is around 3,400 lbs, and the Gross Vehicles Weight Rating (GVWR) is 4,000 lbs exactly. This means that any midsize crossover or SUV that is rated to tow 5,000 lbs will be able to handle trailering duties without many problems.
The trailer offers two floor plans that both include a queen-size bed and will sleep no more than two, a small galley/kitchen, and a bathroom. A multitude of exterior and interior features are all standard. Yep, the powered awning with LED lights is also included.
The starting price of the new Airstream Nest is $45,900. It slots into the company trailer lineup above the entry-level Basecamp trailer, and right around where the Airstream Sport pricing is.
What do you think? Will this new design direction be good for the company, or is the Nest stretching the Airstream brand identity too far? Let us know in this poll and in the comments below.
