What trucks do real farmers and ranchers drive? Mr.Truck and Roman go to a Colorado hay auction to find out, chat with some truckers, and actually purchase hay for a pony and goats.
Horses and livestock have to eat, even though it’s winter. What to do if you are running low on hay? Head down to a hay auction for an opportunity to get some feed at a descent price. If you make a purchase, then how to get all of the hay back to the farm or ranch? Depending on the size of the bale, each one can weigh 800 lbs or more. You need a sturdy truck and trailer to pull the purchase home.
One of the guys Mr.Truck and Roman meet purchased 50 bales. He drives a 2017 Ford F350 dually with a gooseneck trailer behind. As stout as this combination is, he will still need to make two trips to get all the bundles home.
The other gentleman drives a first-generation Dodge Ram 250 with a Cummins diesel. This truck is around 30 years old, but still gets the job done.
