Are you looking to make a lot more power from the 5.0L “Coyote” V8 in your Ford F150? Here is one way to do it. Our friends at American Trucks recently tested a 2012 Ford F-150 V8 crew cab 4×4 equipped with a Roush R2300 supercharger. After all was said and done, the truck put down very impressive power numbers on the dyno. The Roush package includes a 2.3L TVS Roots supercharger and a 3-inch diameter cat-back performance exhaust system.
The stock 2012 Coyote measured a healthy 310 horsepower and 328 lb-ft of torque to the rear wheels on 93 octane fuel. Once all of the Roush package modifications were made, the total output jumped up to 500 horsepower and 480 lb-ft of torque at the wheels. This may not be a mind-blowing number as you could get with a supercharged 6.2L V8 or a modified 3.5L EcoBoost V6, but it is impressive for a smaller V8.

We tested a V8-powered F-150 on the Ike Gauntlet™ extreme towing test and the truck won our 2016 Gold Hitch award for best towing half-ton truck (see video below).
It’s great to see that Ford will continue to offer the 5.0L V8 in the 2018 F-150 with an increased output from the factory and a 10-speed automatic transmission. The updated Coyote V8 is rated at 395 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque. We cannot wait to test the latest powertrain combination. Long live the V8-powered truck!
