The most off-road worthy Tacoma will reach dealers later this month and to encourage potential buyers to start saving, Toyota has announced pricing for the 2017 Tacoma TRD Pro. It’s simple, really, as the TRD Pro comes in only two flavors: manual and automatic. For those who prefer to row their own gears, trucks with the 6-speed manual will start at $41,700 including $940 for destination. I suspect the majority of those interested in the Tacoma TRD Pro will prefer the manual but for those who don’t, there is the $43,700 automatic model. All TRD Pros will be 4×4 Double Cabs with the new 3.5L V6 good for 278 hp and 265 lb-ft of torque.
So what does one get for the extra $$$ shelled out over a TRD Off-Road model? Mostly suspension components. 2.5-inch FOX shocks, a 1-inch lift, and a TRD-tuned rear suspension with progressive-rate off-road leaf springs. A TRD stainless steel cat-back exhaust, front skid plate, and TRD black alloy wheels with Kevlar-reinforced Goodyear Wranglers round out the off-road upgrades. Interior components like embroidered leather seats, TRD shift knob and floor mats, as well as exterior badging, also point towards the truck’s top-of-the-line position. An exclusive color known as Cement – I won’t even try to describe it as my wife often tells me I’m color blind – also helps differentiate the TRD Pro.
We’re looking forward to getting the most off-roady Tacoma here in Colorado to test in the Rocky Mountains. Until then, check out the video below of the TRD Pro’s debut at the 2016 Chicago Auto Show, featuring an interview with Tacoma Chief Engineer Mike Sweers.
