Tesla Pickup Truck Rendered: Part Ridgeline, Part Comic Book Vigilante

The guys at TopSpeed have created images of what they believe the hypothetical Tesla pickup might look like. One-half Honda Ridgeline and – thanks to the absence of a grille – one-half comic book hero Deadpool, the truck has not actually been confirmed but Elon Musk has said it makes sense for Tesla to make one.

Some reports points towards a full-size truck competitor while others claim it will be a small or midsize pickup. This is all just speculation but I am willing to put my money on one thing: having electric power available at all four wheels. Ok, so that’s not a huge revelation but I will say I believe a midsize truck utilizing unibody construction is more likely than a big body-on-frame towing machine… those in the market for a Tesla truck probably tend to value comfort and ride quality over ruggedness. Chances are it would also be the quickest pickup around.

Overall the design works but Tesla’s signature lack of a front grille is getting hard to stomach. The Model S can pull it off, the Model X is walking the line, but a truck without a grille? No thank you. Let’s talk names. If Tesla’s sedan is the Model S, its crossover (x-over) is the Model X, then it stands to reason its pickup truck could either be the Model PU or the Model T… I’m not sure either of those will work.

If this thing ever becomes a reality, it will have to be after the release of the relatively affordable Model 3, which is rumored to have production setbacks of a couple years or more. If actual trucks that exist are more your thing, check out one my personal faves from last year’s Gold Hitch Awards, the GMC Canyon with the 2.8L Duramax diesel.
