TFLtruck received a copy of the 2017 Ford Super Duty packaging information guide from an anonymous source. The guide contains a lot of information that we already know, but also some new specifications, options, and features.
We already know that the 2017 Ford Super Duty will be available for sale in “late 2016”. It’s an all-new truck with an aluminum body, strengthened frame, and new technology and safety features. It will be available with a choice of 6.2L gasoline V8 or 6.7L turbo-diesel V8 engines. There will be a new TorqShift-G 6-speed automatic transmission that is lighter weight and can only be paired with the 6.2L V8 in the F-250. The heavier duty TorqShift automatic transmission will be used across the F-250, F-350, and F-450 lineup when paired with the 6.7L Power Stroke V8 or in heavier configurations.
The new information primarily has to do with how the five trim levels are defined and what optional packages are available for each. The 2017 Super Duty will be available in XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, and Platinum trims. Check the images below for more detail.
The next generation aims to increase capability and comfort. All five wheelbase configurations grow by several inches. For example, the shortest wheelbase grows from 137 to 142 inches, while the longest F-series heavy duty goes from 172 inches of wheelbase to 176 inches. The bigger the truck – the more people and cargo volume the it can offer. There is even an option for a 48-gallon fuel tank with the 176 inch wheelbase configuration.
A larger truck can pose a bigger challenge for handling and maneuvering. Ford is looking to solve the challenges with technology. The 2017 Super Duty will offer a host of driver aide technologies that include: 360-degree camera view, trailer tire pressure monitoring system, a wired trailer camera, adaptive cruise control, adaptive steering, blind-spot monitoring, and many more.
The cabin gets more luxurious with an all-new design that has a similar theme to the one in the F-150. You will be able to opt for a panoramic sunroof and massaging front seats.
Other noteworthy news include available Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) preparation package, Power Takeoff Unit (PTO) that can operate while stationary or mobile, and a 3-inch trailer hitch receiver.
Yep, Ford is looking to raise the payload and towing capabilities of the truck, and it requires the use of a heavier 3-inch hitch receiver among many other upgrades to the chassis, suspension, brakes, and more.
Sadly, this guide does not list any horsepower, torque, payload, or towing numbers for the new truck. We will have to wait a bit longer for those. Will the latest version of the 6.7L Power Stroke make over 900 lb-ft of torque? Can it brake the 1,000 lb-ft mark? There is also no mention of the pricing for the new truck.
