Is the 2016 Mercedes-Benz Metris a commercial passenger van or another choice for families looking for a versatile minivan? Turns out – it can be both.
The Metris will go on sale in the United States in October of 2015 in two variations: passenger van with seating up to eight, and a cargo version. The starting price for the Metris cargo will be $28,950 before destination charges. This makes the bare-bones van, the cheapest Mercedes available for sale in the United States. The passenger version starts at $32,500, and both versions can be specified with many comfort and safety features. The delivery charge is $995, so the final starting price is $29,945.
The Metris launches with one drivetrain, one wheelbase, and one roof height. Power comes from a 2.0-liter gasoline turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 208 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. The 7-speed automatic transmission sends the power to the rear wheels. The van will get an EPA rating closer to launch, but our group got an unverified 32.0 MPG reading on the computer after 69 highway miles. This is with five people in the van. All driving was done at high altitude of Colorado in the beautiful mountains between the cities of Durango and Telluride.
