General Motors knocked this idea out of the park by showing the crowd at the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show the (extremely badass-looking) Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Concept. Positioned between a Ford F150 SRT Raptor and an upcoming Chevrolet Colorado diesel, the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Concept is fitted with a 181 horsepower, 2.8-liter Duramax turbo-diesel, it cranks out 369 lbs-feet of torque. A six-speed automatic transmission is the only transmission available.
“From the bold stance to the trail-ready special equipment, the Colorado ZR2 is all about the fun of driving where the pavement ends – and doing it in characteristic Chevy style,” said Tony Johnson, Colorado marketing manager. “Chevrolet has a heritage of the ZR2 representing the ultimate in production-based off-road capability and we’ll gauge the public’s interest in this concept as we continue to explore the possibilities for the all-new Colorado.”
Fans will remember the ZR2 designation as one that graced very off-road-capable General Motors trucks in the past. The Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Concept is no off-road slouch either. It comes with highly modified bumpers allowing excellent approach and departure angles, electronic-locking-differentials front AND rear. It also has flared fenders, coil-over shock-absorbers and beefy off-road tires.
If (and that’s a big “IF“) General Motors builds this truck, the Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro/Nissan Frontier Pro 4X better look out!
Please, please, please build this!!!
With a manual transmission too….
