The all-new 2015 Ford F-150 was (briefly) given to us to compare acceleration runs against Ram and Chevrolet. We filmed in hot and moist San Antonio, Texas, in the parking lot of Six Flag’s theme park. Ford built an exhibit that will be similar to one that will travel around the country for dealers and consumers later on. They converted part of the parking lot into a makeshift dragstrip complete with a leader-board from each competing truck.

The rest of the 2015 Ford F-150 press display consisted of small pavilions highlighting each improvement.

We did a comparative, drag race style, acceleration test using the 2015 Ford F-150 5.0-liter TI-VCT V8 (normally aspirated) that makes 385 horsepower and 387 lbs-feet of torque. The 2015 Ford F-150 with the 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 was on hand too and it makes 365 hp and 420 lb-ft of torque. The brand-new 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 that makes 325 hp and 375 lb-ft of torque was present as well.

In the video, you’ll see the new Chevrolet Silverado with the 6.2-liter V8 and the Ram with the 5.7-liter HEMI do battle with the new Fords.

There was a small handling course immediately after the mini-dragstrip, it was good for a few hard turns, but it was too short for a real evaluation. The crux of this part of the press event was for the world’s press to get behind the severe weight-loss and engineering that went into the 2015 Ford F-150. So far, so good.

Check out the video and keep in mind: we only had a few moments in each truck on each run. I was behind the wheel of each truck. Still, the outcome is interesting. Check out the end of the video for best-of-the-best times for each brand.
