Ouch! Midsize pickup truck sales continue to decline across the board. Toyota Tacoma is still leading the bunch, but it declined -6.1% in April 2017, when compared to the previous year. The twin trucks from GM (Colorado and Canyon) are seeing double-digit declines (-11.0% and -21.7% respectively). The aging Nissan Frontier is in a similar situation.
There is an obvious exception of the Honda Ridgeline. It is the latest entry into the midsize truck segment, after being absent for a couple of years. The Ridgeline is still in fourth place with 3,186 units sold in April 2017. Could the Ridgeline be stealing sales from the others? If that is case, it means the segment is reaching maximum capacity. Let’s hope this is not the case for the sake of the upcoming Jeep Wrangler Pickup and the Ford Ranger. More variety and choice is good for the consumer.
