Welcome to TFLtruck’s Top 5 Movie or TV Trucks number three featuring The A Team Van!
Come on, all of you have a favorite badass truck from a movie or a television show. No, B.J. and the Bear’struck didn’t make this list. TFLtruck’s Top 5 Movie or TV Trucks will count down to one, crowning its winner with accolades and high praise… well, not really.
This is a list based on our small team’s opinions alone. We looked at film and television to find a spectacular or highly notable truck. It may not be the focal point of the program/film, but these trucks stand out and imbedded their coolness upon us.
The A Team Van! Yes, the coolest van in all of Hollywood is number three on this list because TFLtruck loves vans!

Running from 1983 to 1987, The A Team was based on an elite group of commandos who fought in Vietnam and were framed for a crime they did not commit. Now, if no one else can help, and if your hot daughter/sister/widow needs help – maybe you can hire The A Team.
The A Team Van was (usually) a 1983 GMC (G-Series) Vandura. According to many sources, there were several different types of A Team van including a few stunt versions that were older GMCs, Chevys and even a Ford. Usually, The A Team Van had a 350cid V8 with a 3-speed automatic (Turbo Hydra-matic 350) transmission or, it is rumored, a 4-speed manual 117M transmission. The wheels are red turbine American Racing 14-spoke, 15-inch with P235/65 15 up front and P 275/65 15 on the rears.
As the soldiers for hire needed chrome-plated weapons, they needed a place to stash them. The rear of the van has a custom box that has a hidden door allowing easy access to the weapons. Speaking of the back door, depending on the season, the GMC logo is either highly visible in red or completely blacked out.
… and speaking of black; a popular misconception is that the whole van is totally blacked out. It’s not. Watch the television show and look at the color of the van above the thick red stripe. It’s a very dark, or perhaps, gun-metal gray. I know this as I saw part of an episode being filmed in the early 1980s in the San Fernando Valley, when I was a kid.
The thing that makes The A Team Van unique on this list is the fact that it’s on a television show and a movie. I kind of liked the movie. Sadly, it was announced that there will be no sequel. Bummer.

Speaking of badass vans…
One final note: special shout out to my old friend T.Z. who let me attempt to (poorly) replicate The A Team Van’s paint scheme on his 1987 Volkswagen Fox back in 1991.
