Ford’s commercial medium duty trucks get updated in the spring of 2015 as the 2016 Ford F-650 and F-750. These workhorses of the economy get a new face, updated engines, and a full array of cab configurations. You will immediately notice the updated trucks by the new “Super Duty” style headlights up front. There is also the updated and giant grille with generous usage of chrome. Interior will also be updated with available SYNC and Crew Chief telematics as well as supplemental cab heater for cold climates.
Another cool feature is the available Power Scope towing mirror. They feature a large surface area for good visibility and are also power telescoping and power folding.
These big boys use the upgraded 6.7L Power Stroke V8 turbo-diesel as was announced for the 2015 Super Duties. However, Ford did not specify the exact power output of the Medium Duty versions. The power output is likely less than in the Super Duty to increase longevity and reliability. The good old 6.8L gasoline V10 will still be available and will have provisions for conversion to natural gas. Power is sent to the ground with a commercial-grade six- speed 6R140 automatic transmission with available power takeoff provision to run accessories in the field.
These truck will come in regular, super cab, and crew cab configurations. There will be three frame designs: straight frame, dock height, and a new tractor model focused on towing heavy loads. There are also additional provisions to allow to convert these trucks into wreckers, dump truck, or ambulance bodies.
Ford did their homework and durability testing and provide a 5 year / 250,000 mile power-train warranty. The new trucks go on sale in the spring of 2015.
