We know that Ram is planning to offer the 3.0L EcoDiesel V6 engine in the new Ram 1500 trucks next year. Ram officially confirmed this. While we expected several Ram 1500 trim levels to offer an optional turbo-diesel, it was not clear whether it will be available in the off-road ready new generation Rebel.

The images and video you see here comes to us from instagram.com/o3djeeps This does not officially confirm that a turbo-diesel Rebel will be available for sale, but it is very intriguing to say the least.

Jeep announced that the next generation of the 3.0L EcoDiesel turbo-diesel V6 will be rated at 260 horsepower and 442 lb-ft of torque. This engine is also coming to the Jeep Wrangler and the 2020 Jeep Gladiator according to the latest announcements from FCA.

Will Ram use the same spec of the updated 3.0L diesel in their half-ton trucks? We do not have a final word on this yet, but the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel will have to compete directly against the Ford F-150 with the Power Stroke 3.0L diesel V6. Ford’s turbo-diesel is rated at 250 hp and 440 lb-ft of torque. The Jeep turbo-diesel power rating is already a little better than Ford’s.

We do not yet know the specs on the upcoming Chevy Silverado 1500 3.0L Duramax straight-six diesel.

Here is a spy video of several prototype trucks and also Jeep Wrangler JLs on the Hell’s Revenge trail in Moab. You can hear a distinctive diesel exhaust from this Rebel prototype.

Jeep releases the online configurator for the upcoming 2020 Gladiator pickup truck, but there is a catch. There are no prices available yet. You can pick your trim level and options, but we still don’t know exactly how much it will cost.

You can build your own Gladiator.

2020 Jeep Gladiator

As previously described there are four main trim levels: Sport, Sport S, Overland, and Rubicon. While we saw examples of the Overland and Rubicon at the 2018 LA Auto Show, this is our first official look at the base Sport and the Sport S models.

There is one engine option, but two transmission choices. It’s the 3.6L V6 from the Jeep Wrangler and a choice between the standard 6-speed manual transmission or an 8-speed automatic. The engine is rated at 285 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque.

The Gladiator is offered in ten color choices (see configurator link above for the colors).

Jeep: integrated brake controller

The Gladiator truck comes only as a crew cab with 4×4. It is rated at a maximum 1,650 lbs of payload capacity and 7,650 lbs of towing. Originally, Jeep told us that an integrated brake controller is not available from the factory, but the online configurator offers it as a separate option.

Sport

The base model comes with 17-inch steel rims and a basic infotainment system. Three-piece hardtop, trailer tow, auxiliary switches, spray-in bedliner are some of the optional items. The Gladiator Sport is the model that is rated at maximum 7,650 lbs of towing.

Sport S

The Sport S adds 17-inch aluminum rims and remote keyless entry. Seven-inch infotainment touchscreen and cold weather package are on the list of available options. The Sport S is also rated to tow 7,650 lbs.

Overland

The Overland trim level is meant to be more of a luxurious Gladiator model. It offers 18-inch rim, leather interior, multiple top options, optional driver assistance technologies and an 8.4-inch infotainment system.

Rubicon

While the Overland model is more about luxury, the Rubicon is the ultimate off-road capable version. It includes a 4:1 low-range transfer case and Rock-Trac 4×4 system. It is riding on all-terrain or mud-terrain 33-inch tires. The Rubicon is not short on luxury features either. You can get body-color fenders, LED lights, front-facing camera, steel bumpers, several top options, and more.

Here is What Makes the 2019 Ford Ranger USA Ready (Videos)

The new 2019 Ford Ranger is ever so close to going on sale across the United States. The Ranger is coming back. It will start to roll out to dealerships in January 2019, but what makes it unique to the American market from the Rangers that are available in other countries and parts of the world? Here is a detailed look at the features, trims, and specs of the new midsize truck from Ford.

Ford says they tailored the 2019 U.S.-spec Ranger to a truck culture in the USA that is a bit different from elsewhere in the world. It includes a more traditional appearance with separate steel bumpers, updates to the frame, suspension, and brakes to handle the loads and long highway trips.

The powertrain is completely unique for this Ranger. There is just one engine/transmission combination, but Ford says it offers a good balance between fuel economy, power, and performance. It’s a 2.3L turbocharged I4 that is rated at 270 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque. The engine is mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission.

The engine block is the same as in the Ford Mustang and the current Ford Explorer, but it shares the rear-wheel-drive longitudinal layout with the Mustang. The Ranger engine uses a different turbocharger, other components and tuning in order to suit it for truck duty. The focus was mainly on low-end torque and fuel efficiency among other attributes. The 10-speed automatic transmission is practically the same as also found in the Ford F-150 and the Mustang with just minor tweaks.

Ford and EPA announce the Ranger fuel economy of 21 MPG city / 26 MPG highway / and 23 MPG combined for the Ranger 2WD. The 4×4 model is rated at 20 MPG / 24 MPG / 22 MPG combined.

Here is how the 2019 Ranger fuel economy compares to the other midsize body-on-frame trucks.

The U.S. Ford Ranger is offered in XL, XLT, and Lariat trim levels. You can also choose an XL STX, Sport, Chrome, and FX4 packages. The pricing ranges from just over $25,000 for a 2WD XL extended cab truck to just over $45,000 for a fully-optioned Lariat 4×4 crew cab.

The Ranger 2WD is rated at 1,860 lbs of maximum payload, and most of the trucks we drove this week had payload ratings between 1,500 – 1,700 lbs after you add 4×4 and other options.

Maximum towing is at 7,500 lbs, but an integrated brake controller is not included from the factory. However, Ford is offering a brake controller as a dealership-installed accessory.

We will be publishing our off-road and on-road driving impressions and reviews of the new 2019 Ford Ranger after the embargo lifts in the morning of Dec 18th, 2018.

Here is another look at all the new Rangers from the event.

What Will a 2020 Chevy Colorado Look Like? Prototypes Caught in Michigan (Spied)

These Chevy Colorado prototypes were caught on a Michigan highway with camouflage on the front. These truck prototypes appear to be a global version of the Chevrolet Colorado midsize truck that are currently available in Thailand, Australia (as Holden), and other markets. The interesting part is the camouflage on the front that suggests at least a refresh of the truck that may be coming soon.

The current generation of the U.S.-spec Chevy Colorado has been around since the 2015 model. The truck has received several updates over the last several years, including a 2.8L turbo-diesel engine, 8-speed automatic for the 3.6L gas V6, ZR2 off-road model, Chevrolet’s latest infotainment system, ZR2 Bison, new optional grille, RST, and Trailer Runner packages among others.

Still the overall look, body, and the underlying chassis remain unchanged. The new 2019 Ford Ranger is going on sale in early 2019, and the 2020 Jeep Gladiator is several months away. The Chevy Colorado and the GMC Canyon need a thorough refresh to remain competitive in a midsize truck segment that is getting ever more crowded.

Chevrolet is just now rolling out the 2019 Colorado lineup in the United States. The trucks have a new “CHEVROLET” grille option. The ZR2 Bison will be available starting in January 2019. Also, new Colorado RST and Colorado Trail Runner editions are launching soon.

There are rumors that suggest that the new 2.7L Turbocharged four-cylinder engine (that launches in the 2019 Chevy Silverado 1500) is coming to the Colorado soon. It would make a great power plant for the midsize truck, but there is no official comment on this from Chevrolet yet.

Note (Op/Ed): My opinion is: the 2.7L Turbo I4 with 310 hp and 348 lb-ft of torque could actually replace two current engines in the lineup : the 3.6L V6 and the 2.8L turbo-diesel.

Here is a first look at the 2019 Chevy Colorado ZR2 Bison.

This New Folding Truck Topper Is Easier Than Ever – Bestop For Trucks (Video)

Bestop For Trucks – folding truck topper

There are at least two choices for truck bed toppers out there. You can get a hard shell that is made from fiberglass, composite, or aluminum. These can be heavy and you are likely not to remove it once installed. On the other hand, you can get a soft folding topper from Bestop, which is easily foldable or removed whenever you need to carry tall items in your bed.

This is their latest design that improves on what was there before. It uses zippers and channel locks to secure the canvas panels. Once installed, the soft topper can be folded down or put back up in a matter of minutes.

The aluminum structure has been redesigned to better match the body lines of the truck (a Chevy Colorado in this case). The aluminum bows are also reshaped in order to prevent pinched fingers when folding.

The combination of zippers and channel locks that are similar to those on a Jeep Wrangler tops (Bestop also supplies premium soft tops for the new Wranglers). The new system is meant to allow for easier folding of the material than before.

There is a third brake light at the rear of the topper in order to comply with regulations.

Please use the comments section to let us know if you use a truck topper, and which kind of topper you have.
