Our friends at 5 Star Tuning just put a new stock 2021 Ford F-150 PowerBoost hybrid on the dyno to see what this new power-plant is capable of in the real world and on basic 87-octane fuel. Here is what happened.
The new PowerBoost system is comprised of the latest 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6, an electric motor (that is sandwiched between the engine and the 10-speed transmission), and a relatively small 1.5 kWh battery. The factory Hybrid ratings for this truck are 430 hp and 570 lb-ft of torque at the crank (not at the wheels).
The truck you see here is a crew cab Lariat trim level. This is about a mid-level package for the new F-150 lineup.
The gas/electric powertrain delivered an average of 405.75 horsepower near 4,500 rpm and 485.5 lb-ft of torque around 4,250 rpm. If you assume a 15% drivetrain power loss, this new Hybrid could be producing closer to 466 horsepower at the crank.
What happens if you feed this beast premium 93-octane? What happens to it with a light performance tune? We will have to wait a little longer, let the guys at 5 Star Tuning do their work, and see.
