In this episode of ‘No Pavement Needed‘ – Roman and Tommy tackle two mountain passes in a Jeep Gladiator Rubicon and a KTM 690 Enduro. First, they must contend against the high elevation Webster Pass. Next is another beautiful Colorado trail – the Boreas Pass.

The Jeep Gladiator Rubicon is modified with a Mopar Jeep Performance Parts 2-inch suspension lift and 35-inch BFGoodrich KM3 tires. The Jeep has a few other upgrades, including a winch, LED lights, snorkel air intake and more. It’s also a camping/overland rig with RackStarz bed rack and a RoofNest tent.
This is really a story of Turtle versus Hare. The Gladiator truck is a very capable off-road machine that must go slowly over jagged rocks and very tight shelf-road sections. The KTM is a dual-sport bike with plenty of off-road prowess and on-highway capability. Riding the motorcycle of these mountain trails is a far more physical experience, but you can go much faster than a 4×4 and have potentially much more fun. Why potentially? Well, riding a bike on a technical trail also comes with the additional risk of taking a spill and getting hurt.
For example, both must cross a stream on the way up to Webster Pass. It’s no worries for the Jeep, but Roman must take special care on his bike as to not hit a large rock and go for a swim.
