The 2020 Nissan Titan is (kind of) new
One of our favorite “affordable” off-road 1/2-ton trucks is the Nissan Titan Pro-4X. It is, and always has been a bargain considering what you can get. The suspension, tires, armor and locking rear differential make this truck remarkably capable. Sure, the one we’re testing in this video is over $60,000 ($60,180), but dealerships are wheeling and dealing – especially now.
The main changes for this Titan consist of mild exterior upgrades and a more powerful engine (when premium fuel is used). An all-new nine-speed automatic transmission replaces the mediocre seven-speed tranny. Among the biggest changes has to be the revised interior. It is now comparable to the higher end competition, rather than being somewhat bargain basement, like before.
Our father and son team of Roman and Tommy took the newest 2020 Nissan Titan Pro-4X out for a buddy review. This is a TFL standard we’ve used for years, It entails a street loop where we test the daily-driving abilities of vehicles. We also do a walk-around showing exterior features, the engine and an overview of the interior.
How did the 2020 Nissan Titan Pro-4X stack up?
This Titan comes standard with a 5.6-L (Direct Injection) gasoline DOHC 32-valve V8 gas engine that makes 400 horsepower and 413 lbs-feet of torque. It also comes standard with the new nine-speed automatic transmission. In this trim, it can haul 1,200 lbs and tow 9,200 lbs. While those numbers are not outstanding, this is an off-road package which tends to lower capacity.
It’s rated at 15 mpg city, 21 mpg highway and a combined 17 mpg.
Here are some of the buddy review results. Keep in mind: these results are based on “real world” testing out on the road at high elevation. We also test at tracks, towing loops and off-road, but those are other videos.
By the numbers:
0-60 mph (with two adults): 9.6 seconds. It sounds glorious too!
Noise level (at 60 mph): It averaged about 63 decibels, which is as quiet as some luxury sedans we’ve tested.
Navigation test (voice recognition): It did recognise that they wanted sandwiches, it just failed to figure out which sandwich place Tommy was talking about.
Hula ride test (1-10, with 10 being the worst ride): Both reviewers gave it a 4.
