Check this out! It looks like the 6.2L V8 will get a power increase for the 2019 model year. The GM fleet order guide for the new 2019 Chevy Silverado 1500 and the 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 trucks is publicly available. The order guide has a multitude of options, weight ratings, sizes, trim levels, and power specifications on the new trucks.
The news that stands out the the most are the power ratings.
The 5.3L V8 and the 6.2L V8 are still labeled as EcoTec3, although the engines will be equipped with the latest Dynamic Skip Fire technology that allows the engines to operate on anywhere between 1 and 8 cylinders.
The 2019 version of the 5.3L EcoTec3 V8 is listed at: 355 horsepower @ 5,600 rpm and 383 lb-ft of torque @ 4,100 rpm. This is the same rating as in the previous generation 2018 trucks.
However, the 6.2L EcoTec3 V8 gets a power boost. It is listed at 425 hp @ 5,600 rpm and 450 lb-ft of torque @ 4,100 rpm. This is an increase of 5 horsepower and decrease of 10 lb-ft of torque over the previous 2018 version of the engine.
The 6.2L V8 425 horsepower rating is far more than the 375 hp of Ford’s 3.5L EcoBoost V6. Although the 450 lb-ft of torque is still lower than the 470 lb-ft in the EcoBoost.
It’s good to see that the 7,300 lbs GVWR rating for the 4WD trucks with a Max Trailering Package. This should allow for highly competitive and usable payload numbers and towing capacities. The 3.23 and 3.42 rear differential ratios return for 2019.
We know that the 2019 6.2L V8 will be paired to the 10-speed automatic transmission, but the 5.3L V8 will continue with a 8-speed.
