The entire Silverado 1500 light duty truck lineup is getting a refresh for the 2016 model year. Most obvious are the grille and headlight updates that are meant to make the truck appear wider and lower. However, there is also the new front facia with LED fog lamps. The tail lights also get a new signature.
The other news is that the 8-speed automatic transmission will now be available with the 5.3-liter V8 engine on upper-end trim levels. Many consumers have asked for this, and GM is offering the option in 2016. This power train combination is not yet rated for MPGs. Stay tuned for this information.
The interior gets small tweaks, but the most notable is the availability of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto phone integration. This should make the entire driving experience better, but we will report on this when we get these trucks in Colorado for thorough testing.
The updated trucks will start arriving at dealerships within the next two months.
