Fans of Heavy Duty trucks and off-roading can rejoice with the return of the 2014 Ram Power Wagon. Imagine a Ram 2500 HD with two inches of extra ground clearance, a 12,000 lbs winch, upgraded suspension, and 33-inch tires.
If a truck in this class could be considered “military-grade” it should be the Ram Power Wagon. The 2014 Ram Power Wagon takes the original formula for off-road dominance a step further. Aside from the disconnecting sway-bar, the front suspension has the “Ram Articulink” suspension which aids articulation. The rear suspension is now based on coil-springs and the 2014 Ram Power Wagon has the new 410 horsepower, 6.4-liter HEMI that makes 429 lb-ft of torque.
The rear axle has 4.10 gears and it offers locking differentials. It has the hardware to be as tough off-road as ever.
Maximum torque comes in at 4,000 rpm and the 66RFE-six-speed automatic transmission is the only transmission available. No word on a possible diesel power plant, but it would make for a mean tow vehicle. As it stands, overall payload is 1,490 lbs and maximum towing is 10,810 lbs. More than enough to pull a beefy Jeep and trailer.
The 2014 Ram Power Wagon has the makings for an excellent off-road machine. The advent of the new suspension and beefy HEMI cannot be ignored. Hopefully, The Fast Lane Truck will get one to play with soon!
