GM is back in the Colorado Rocky Mountains with several powertrain test trucks. It appears that the 2027 Chevy Silverado HD 3500 and its updated new Duramax turbo-diesel is just around the corner. Here’s what we see and everything we know so far.

TFLtruck was first to mention to discuss a possible new 8.3L Duramax V8 turbo-diesel that GM was and is working on. We heard crazy claims about this engine. It may be a compound-turbo setup. It could produce over 600 horsepower from the factory. It could improve emissions to the point of not requiring DEF. We still don’t have any official confirmation on any of these rumors. However, we may have something official about this at the end of this month.

In meantime, Roman catches these same prototypes testing in the Colorado mountains once again. This Silverado HD 3500 dually appears to pull the same trailer is loaded to about 25,000 pounds of total weight (this is our rough estimate).

We heard another rumor that GM will keep the current 6.6L Duramax V8 and add a larger displacement Duramax engine as a premium high-output option.
