The current 2.7L TurboMax engine in the Chevy Colorado and the GMC Canyon may be getting a significant power increase for the 2027 model year. Here is everything we know so far. Let’s dig in!
We first heard a rumor about the 2.7L turbocharged I4 engine’s power bump a couple of weeks ago from GMAuthority. This is an unofficial report. We didn’t know how much more power could this engine produce in GM’s production trucks. This engine is currently used in the Chevy Silverado 1500, the GMC Sierra 1500, the Chevy Colorado, and the GMC Canyon pickup trucks.
The current high-output version of this engine is called the “TurboMax” and it is rated at 310 hp @ 5,600 rpm and 430 lb-ft of torque @ 3,000 rpm. The base Chevy Colorado WT still offers a standard version of this 2.7L engine that is rated at 237 hp and 259 lb-ft.
We have a credible unofficial source that says an updated 2.7L TurboMax is coming with 350 hp and 440 lb-ft of torque. Whoa! This is nearly 130 horsepower per liter.
Facelift?

What about a GM midsize truck facelift? The current generation of the Colorado and the Canyon came out as the 2023 model year. This was an all-new generation. If we follow the traditional GM truck cadence, we may expect a Colorado / Canyon refresh for the 2027 model. However, the world is changing. As such, we may not see a refreshed Chevy Colorado until 2028 or 2029 model year.
