Will the new 2027 Chevy Silverado 1500 and 2027 GMC Sierra 1500 pickup trucks be equipped with new 6th-generation 5.7L and 6.6L V8 engines? Here is everything we know so far. Let’s dig in.

We have been waiting to hear more about the upcoming Gen6 V8 engines from General Motors. The most recent informations comes to us as an un-official report from GM Authority. This site generally has reliable information and their report suggests that GM is working on two new Gen6 V8 small block engines. The smaller engine is 5.7 liters in displacement and the second one is 6.6 liters. Wait, what!?

The first 5.7L (GM’s 350 cu-in) V8 engine first came out in the 1967 Chevy Camaro. This engine became a legend and continues over multiple generations. It was used in high performance cars, pickup trucks, and SUVs. This report suggested the 350-Chevy is coming back.

The cousin to this engine is the 6.6L V8. It may be similar to the engine that is currently available in the GM’s heavy-duty pickup trucks, but with more power and efficiency.

Once again, all this information is unofficial. GM has not commented anything about the new Gen6 engines. We also don’t know when they plan to release any official information about it.

We expect these new V8 engine to be marginally more efficient than the existing 5.3L and 6.2L engines. Why increase the displacement? This may have something to do with more stringent emissions regulations, but it’s also a way to make more power.

How much more power? We hope the new pickup truck 5.7L V8 makes at least 400-420 horsepower. The new 6.6L V8 should approach 460-500 hp levels. What do you think? Supercharged versions of these new V8 engine must make over 720 horsepower to be competitive. Ford recently revealed a 900-horsepower supercharged V8 version of the Ford F-150 Raptor R that will be available via a dealership upgrade with factory warranty.

Here is a video of some new GM heavy-duty pickup trucks testing at high elevation of the Colorado Rocky Mountains. We thought these trucks have a new 8.3L turbo-diesel V8 engine, but we have no official information to confirm this.
