Take a look. Our friend, Tim Esterdahl, from Pickup Truck plus SUV Talk shows us a 2014 Toyota Tundra 5.7L V8 truck that recently crossed 1,000,000 miles! The truck belongs to Vic Sheppard. Vic first put 1,000,000 miles on a 2007 Toyota Tundra with a 4.7L V8. That first milestone happened in 2016. Toyota bought back that 2007 Tundra for evaluation and study. They did it by gifting Vic a brand-new Tundra.

Now, Vic has been using this 2014 Tundra SR5 2WD Access Cab in SR5 trim. The engine is a 5.7L iForce V8. It’s mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. The transmission had an issue at around 860,000 miles when it started to refuse to go in reverse. Eventually, this transmission had to be replaced. However, the engine is still original.

Vic averages close to 125,000 miles per year. He is a hot-shot driver, delivering loads across the country. He carries the loads inside the bed, he does not tow a trailer. Usually, long-haul big rig truckers see 125,000+ miles per year. Hot shot drivers see very similar distances.

Vic did regular maintenance at a Toyota dealership. He gets a new set of tires at least once per year. He averages around 18 MPG over the long haul. Vic had to replace the fuel tank fuel filter twice. He also replaced two wind shields in this truck, which sounds amazing. Here, in Colorado, we tend to go through a lot more windshields.

What’s next? Vic says that he plans to keep driving this 2014 Tundra indefinitely. More to come.

Thank you Tim and Vic for bringing this story to us!

Tim first found Vic and his first 1 million mile Tundra. A little later, I got a chance to see Vic’s that Toyota Tundra 4.7L V8 for myself and discuss it with Tundra’s chief engineer – Mike Sweers. Check out the video below.
