We have a follow-up story about the upcoming 2027 Slate truck and SUV. Nathan and MotoMan get to sit inside and crawl around the new Slate truck that the company converted into a blue SUV at the debut event in about an hour. Nathan also gets a chance to interview some people who work at Slate to get more details. Let’s dig in!
All of us had a question about Slate offering an AWD or 4×4 version of this two-door pickup truck. Nathan asked, but there is no official comment about it. We think it’s possible that Slate adds an option for a second electric motor that drives the front axle, but the company needs to get off the ground first.
It’s interesting to see inside of the converted Slate SUV because the rear bench seat and the rollover hoop appear to be mounted solid to the floor of the truck’s bed. We do not know the results of the Slate crash tests yet, but the company says that they are in the process of testing.
How about warranty? Slate has not communicated the term of their manufacturer warranty, but they say that the vehicle and certified accessories will have manufacturer warranty.
The rear seat appear to be relatively narrow, but there are three seat belts built into it. Three large adults may not be able to sit in the rear bench seat together because it’s located in the space just ahead of the rear wheel wells. That space is around 48 inches wide, but we do not have an exact measurement at this time.
The dashboard is refreshingly simple and there options for seat covers with built-in heating elements. You can change the look and feel of the interior with different color accents inside the steering wheel. Nathan says that he is getting a 1980’s vibe while sitting inside the Slate. This is indeed very cool.
The starting price of the blank Slate is around $27,500. It’s a rear-wheel-drive electric vehicle with 201 horsepower and two battery options. The driving range varies between 150 miles with the smaller battery to 240 miles with the larger one. Slate says that most components, including the battery components are sourced within the United States. The vehicles will be manufactured at a retooled factory in Indiana.
