This includes unofficial power & torque specs.

We have more information about the upcoming 2025 Ram HD truck lineup and the new Diesel powertrain in these trucks.

This report comes to us thanks to our friends at The Truck Show Podcast (Holman & Lightning). The guys interviewed an anonymous insider labeled Mr.X who has insider knowledge about the new Cummins turbo-diesel engine in the 2025 Ram heavy-duty pickup trucks.

This information is not confirmed by Ram Trucks (at this time).

First, the 2025 HD truck straight-six engine will continue to have the 6.7L displacement. A larger displacement engine may come about two years down the line, but there is no further details about this yet.

The 2025 engine displacement remains the same, but the design changes. The engine gets a new head that no longer allows for a grid heater. The newest Cummins is reportedly switching to glow plugs. This helps the engine start up during cold temperatures. The new head allows for external injectors and fuel rail lines. The engine block switches back to iron from CGI material that the engine has used since 2019.

The turbocharger is new and the engine gets a new power rating. The report says that there will not be two version of the Cummins in the new Ram HD pickup trucks (standard or high-output version). There will be one version with 430 horsepower and 1,075 lb-ft of torque. Once again – this is unofficial.

This means that the new 2025 Ram HD 2500 trucks will have 60 hp more than before, and 2025 Ram HD 3500 trucks will have 10 hp more than prior. The torque rating of 1,075 lb-ft is the same as the current H.O. Cummins. This newer and more powerful engine will reportedly be paired with a new heavy-duty 8-speed ZF Powerline automatic transmission.

We will have to put this new powertrain through the ultimate TFLtruck real-world battery of tests, but we are guessing it should greatly improve the overall performance, acceleration, and efficiency of these trucks.

Still, the Ford 6.7L Power Stroke V8 has a version with 500 hp and 1,200 lb-ft of torque. The Chevy and GMC trucks have a 6.6L Duramax V8 engine with 470 hp and 975 lb-ft of torque.

The cab of the 2025 Ram HD trucks is said to remain the same as before (the same since about 2010). Ram Trucks has one of the best interiors and technology in the business, but this older cabin does not have the same space as competitors (unless it’s the Mega Cab). The older cabin may not have the same level of crash protection and safety as the newer cabs from Ford and GM. We do not have all the data to back up the safety claim because IIHS does not do detailed testing of heavy-duty pickup trucks. Although, older Ram 1500 DS cabins had “Marginal” roof strength ratings in IIHS.org testing.
