The refreshed 2025 Chevy Tahoe and Chevy Suburban are finally here. Chevrolet started production of these best-selling SUVs at their Arlington, TX factory this week. I go hands on with two special versions of these new family haulers. The first one is a 9-person Suburban base model that is the least expensive new Suburban. The other one is a Chevy Tahoe Z71 off-road model with a new LZ0 version of the 3.0L Duramax I6 turbo-diesel. Let’s dig in!
Chevrolet continues to expend their Tahoe and Suburban lineup. They still offer six trim levels and three engine options. There are distinct grille designs, interior themes, and wheel options. You can now buy a 2025 Chevy Suburban with 24-inch wheels from the factory. (We will have a full first drive review of these SUVs next week.)
Exterior changes are minimal. The headlights and front fascia are new. The tail lamps are new as well. However, nearly all of the sheet metal remains the same.
The interior receives a new dashboard design and several new interior themes and options. The digital gauge cluster and the center infotainment screen are linked together and match several other vehicles in the fleet. It’s a Google built-in system with wireless Android Auto and wireless Apple CarPlay integration.
The hands-free Super Cruise driver assistance feature is now available on Tahoe or Suburban LT, RST, Premier, and High Country trim levels. This is an option and it requires an active OnStar subscription. The hands-free Super Cruise system can operate while towing a trailer.
Chevrolet did not increase the towing capacities of the refreshed 2025 Tahoe or Suburban. Several of the SUVs we saw had towing ratings between 7,600 – 8,000 lbs.
This is significantly less than most of the competitors. The updated 2025 Ford Expedition is rated to tow up to 9,600 lbs. The Jeep Wagoner is rated to tow up to 10,000 lbs. The all-new 2025 Nissan Armada is rated to tow up to 8,500 lbs. However, the new Tahoe and Suburban have best-in-class trailering app that is accessible in the vehicle. It has a section for trailer maintenance, helpful tips when towing a boat, and much more.
Z71 + Duramax
The new Z71 off-road trims can now be optioned with a new 3.0L Duramax I6 turbo-diesel. The LZ0 engine with 305 hp and 495 lb-ft of torque. The base engine is a 5.3L V8 with 355 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque. The other optional engine is the 6.2L V8 with 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque.
The Tahoe still comes with a 24 gallon fuel tank, and the Suburban has a 28 gallon tank. When equipped with the Duramax diesel, a more basic new Tahoe or Suburban could go up 750 miles on a single fill-up (according to Chevrolet).
