This is my first opportunity to go hands-on with the all-new 2024 GMC Sierra EV Denali Edition1, and also look at how it fits into a growing family of electric GMC trucks. First came the Hummer EV truck, then the Hummer EV SUV, and now it’s the Sierra EV Denali that is starting to reach new customers.
After lookin the new Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 alongside the new Hummer EV SUV 3X – I can say that they are very different. The Hummer EV 3X is powered by three motors. It has more power and more playful character. You can quickly remove the four roof panels, lower the frameless side windows, lower the rear hatch glass, and enjoy an open driving experience at any time.
The Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 has a more traditional pickup truck cabin. It has a removable mid-gate that opens up many cargo opportunities. It’s powered by two electric motors, and it has a bit more payload and towing capacity than the Hummer EV.
The Sierra EV Denali has a much greater driving range. GMC states it as 440 miles (when not towing). If you are trying to make a decision between these two – go for the Sierra EV if you are looking for a quieter ride and more truck capability (such as pulling a trailer). If towing is not high on your priority list, then the Hummer EV lineup may be more up your alley.
They also have many similarities. Both of these have a height-adjustable air suspension, handy four wheel steering, and Crab Walk party trick. These two also have an approximately the same starting price of around $99,000+.
