Check out these two new Ram HD chassis cab trucks. One is a new 2024 Ram HD 3500 dually Cummins turbo-diesel “Hot Shot” special, and the other is a fully-optioned Ram HD 5500 Limited luxury liner. There is a big price difference between them. Let’s dig in!

Ram HD 3500

I call this white Ram HD 3500 Tradesman dually a “Hot Shot” special, because you see these trucks every day on an interstate highway near you hauling trailers full of cars, parts, or freight. This crew cab 4×4 work truck configuration is the most common. You need 4×4 when hauling trailers on dirt or gravel. You need a crew cab because you can make a sleeper cab out of it.

This is a Class 3 truck with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of 14,000 lbs. It has a tow rating of over 34,000 lbs (payload and tow ratings are dependent on the truck’s configuration and optional equipment).

It has a powerful 6.7L Cummins I6 turbo-diesel that can be easily repaired or maintained at a variety of truck stops around the country. It has a competitive payload and towing rating. Just mount a gooseneck hitch, some rear wheel covers, and mud flaps. You are ready to go to work. How much does this truck cost? Well, the 2024 price is around $75,000 for the truck you see here.

There are some deals to be had on new trucks. Our local Colorado dealer is offering discount between $4,500 – $6,000 on Ram HD 3500 chassis cab trucks.

Ram HD 5500

The Ram HD 5500 Limited is a whole other animal. It’s a class 5 truck with a GVWR of 19,500 lbs. It has a beefier components and a payload rating of up to 10,000 lbs. In fact, this Ram 5500 can carry the Ram 3500 on its back with a problem. The Limited luxury model you see here has a customized and color-matched CM flat bed on the back.

Although this medium-duty Ram 5500 has more payload capability than the HD 3500, it has less maximum towing capacity. It’s rated to tow up to about 30,000 lbs. It’s still a lot, but it’s not at the same level as the Ram 3500 dually.

The blue Ram 5500 truck you see here has a sticker price that approaches $105,000, and that is before it got a color-matched CM flat bed. These big trucks can get pricey!

Join me in the video below as I take both of these trucks for drive around Michigan and show you all the features.
